The ability to translate is very useful to help students understanding lesson in foreign languages, especially English. Based on the experience of researchers while teaching English in junior high schools and also based on some of the results of previous studies, many students made error in translating, one of which was translating sentences using personal pronouns from Indonesian to English. The purpose of this study was to find out the errors in using personal pronouns and to find out the most dominant errors made by eighth grade students of SMP Plus Melati Samarinda.
This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive design. The instrument used in this research is document analysis. Researchers used several steps suggested by Ellis and Barkuizhen, they are collecting a samples, identifying errors, classifying errors, explaining errors and evaluating of errors. This research was conducted on eighth grade students of SMP Plus Melati Samarinda with a total of seventeen students as a sample.
The results of the study showed that the total number of errors made by the eighth grade of SMP Plus Melati Samarinda was forty-five. Students made the most dominant errors in using possessive pronouns with sixteen errors or thirty- five point five percent. The second is a personal pronoun as a possessive adjective with twelve errors or twenty six point six percent. The third is the personal pronoun as an object with eleven errors or twenty-four point four percent. The fourth is the personal pronoun as a reflexive with five errors or eleven point one percent. And the last is the personal pronoun as a subject with one error or two point two percent.
