Rizka Fradina As’ari. 2023. “Students’ Difficulties In Translating Indonesian Into English: A Descriptive Qualitative Research At The Fifth Semester Of English Department UINSI Samarinda In The Academic Year 2022/2023“ Thesis, English Language Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris State Islamic University of Samarinda. This research is under the guidance of Mrs. Dina Destari, S,S., M.Pd. as the first advisor, and Ms. Anis Komariah, M.Pd. as the second advisor.
The act of interpreting one language into another is known as translation.
For students majoring in English, it is one of the most critical obstacles to overcome. A student who has mastered translation will find it simpler to complete educational tasks because doing so gives them access to more references in the two languages. It can be inferred that every student majoring in English must control translation in order to facilitate their educational process. Students struggle with translation, though. As a result, they have trouble translating from the original language to their mother tongue and the other way around. The research objectives of this research is to find out the difficulties faced by the fifth semester of English study program students at UINSI Samarinda in translating Indonesian into English.
The qualitative descriptive method was employed in this research. It is focused on TBI 2 in the fifth semester. The information was gathered through interviews and written records. The research was then examined using a Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive model. The data were validated using source and time triangulation.
The researcher concluded from the finding that students had issues with grammar and word choice. According to the findings of the interviews as well as documentation, the students' vocabulary knowledge was insufficient, making it difficult for them to construct proper sentences. They also reported feeling uncertain when choosing words because they had to adapt the meaning from the source language.
