This research was supervised by Dr. Bahrani, M.Pd as the first advisor and AnisKomariah, M.Pd as the second advisor. Listening plays a vital role in daily lives. People listen to different purposes such as entertainment, academic purposes or obtaining necessary information. Without listening skill, no communication can be achieved. Teacher hardly provide on listening. Since teaching can be challenging, teacher focus on teaching writing and reading skills. Therefore, the researcher chose to focus on listening skills. An animated video is one of the great ways to teach listening that will encourage students to participate more actively in the learning process. The aim of this study is to determine whether employing animated videos to enhance eighth-grade SMPN 3 Samarinda students' listening skills has any meaningful effects. Therefore, the researcher conducted a study under the title “The Effectiveness of Using Animation Video to Improve Students’ Listening At Eight Grade of SMPN 3 Samarinda in Academic Year 2023/2024”. This study uses quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design in which there are 2 classes, namely the control class and the experimental class. By using random sampling, the sample in this study was 54 of the 286 population. Data analysis was conducted through reliability test, normality test, homogeneity test, and T-test. The result of this study indicated that is there any significance value (2-tails) 0.000. This means that the significance value is lower than the specified value of 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) by comparing these values the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative is accepted.Therefore, it can be concluded that using animation videos to teach narrative text in experimental classes is effective and significantly different from control classes that did not use animation videos.
