Reading is an important skill that contributes to the success of language learning. Thus, attention needs to be paid to reading skills to improve students' English skills. However, students have several problems in reading comprehension so that their reading achievement is low, such as not understanding the context of the reading material, students' habits of translating word for word, and a lack of interest in reading. By using strategies can help students improve their reading skills. To understand the context of the text, one must not only have a good command of English but also a good reading strategy. The story grammar strategy is a strategy aims to help students understand the reading text by using a graph to organize the elements in the story text. The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of using a story grammar strategy toward reading text achievement in the eighth grade of MTs Darul Ihsan Samarinda Academic Year 2021/2022.
This study uses quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design in which there are 2 classes, namely the control class and the experimental class. By using simple random sampling, the sample in this study was 72 of the 125 population. Data analysis was conducted through validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and ANOVA One-Way tests.
The results of this study indicate that the value of ???? was greater than the value of ???????????? was 38,617 > 2,669. then Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected.
In addition, it can also be seen through the decision to use the value of sig (significance) which showed that the value of sig (significance) was smaller than the level of significance (α), where the value of sig was 0.00 < 0.05, it means that H0 was rejected. The data also shows the average score of the experimental class in the pre-test of 48.91 and post-test of 73.60 which indicated that there was a significant increase between before and after treatment using the story grammar strategy. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the use of the story grammar strategy toward students reading achievement in eighth-grade students of MTs Darul Ihsan Samarinda for the Academic Year 2021/2022 was effective.
