The Students’ Perception In Teaching Of Listening Of Third Semester At English Education Department In IAIN Samarinda Academic Year 2019/2020

This research is under the guidance of Mr. Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor, and Mrs. Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the second advisor.
English in Indonesia is a foreign language that should be learned and mastered by students. One of the skills in English is listening, listening becomes an important skill because listening is vital in the language classroom and it provides input for the learner. Without understanding input at the right level, any learning simply cannot begin. Because of the importance of listening especially the teaching of listening. The researcher interest to find out how the students’ perception of the teaching of listening in State Islamic Institute of Samarinda (IAIN Samarinda).
This research used descriptive quantitative. The instruments are questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this research are the students of the third semester at the English education department in IAIN Samarinda academic year 2019/2020, the researcher has chosen 1 class that consists of 29 students as the representative of third semester students. The data was collected by asked students to answer the questions on the questionnaire that consists of 30 questions and an interview that consists of 3 questions. The data were analyzed by the mean formula. The student's perception of the teaching of listening focused on three indicators, they were the planning, the implementation, and the evaluation of the teaching of listening of the third semester at the English education department in IAIN Samarinda academic year 2019/2020.
Based on the findings, the mean of students’ questionnaire was 99,1. These findings supported by interview result that showed, 1)The lecturer prepared lesson plan, 2)The lecturer was not only used English book as the learning sources, but the lecturer also used article and internet, 3)In teaching listening the lecturer used variety methods, 4)Media that the lecturer used were Audio and Audio Visual, 5)The lecturer built the good interaction with the students and helped the students who have difficult in the lesson 6)The lecturer is good at organizing and managing the classroom atmosphere makes condusive and productive, 7)The lecturer has a good personality, smart, disciplined, and creative, 8)The lecturer evaluated the students with the good evaluation system. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that students’ perception in the teaching of listening of the third semester at English department in IAIN Samarinda is categorized into the very good category.
