This research is under the guidance of Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor and Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the second advisor.
As one of international language, English has significant role in every part of life, such as communication, education, technology, etc. Most of people in the world use English as the standard language in the country where they live. English in Indonesia as a foreign language that should be learned and mastered by students. Education is a process of fundamental skills intellectual and emotional. The aim of education is to improve the quality of students in Indonesia, especially in speaking. There are so many ways conducted by educational institution in improving students English quality in Indonesia. One of the institutions is Islamic school MTs. Labbaika Samarinda. Based on research conducted the researcher found that in MTs. Labbaika has a special learning program to Pare. The objective o f this research is to know the speaking ability of students at MTs. Labbaika Samarinda who learned in Pare course.
This research used descriptive qualitative. The main instrument is speaking assessment. The technique of collecting data, the researcher asked students to describe a picture to measure the students speaking ability. The data analysis technique used speaking rubric. The assessing of speaking focused on five components, they are vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, fluency, and comprehension. The assessing of speaking had been given to the students who learned in Pare Course at MTs. Labbaika Samarinda that consist of eight students.
Based on the data finding, it showed that speaking ability of students’ who learned in Pare course at Mts. Labbaika Samarinda was very satisfying. It means that speaking ability of students at MTs. Labbaika Samarinda was “very good” category because their vocabulary was understand and participate in any conversation. They grammar were quite rare. Their mispronounced has quite rare. Their fluency in any conversations has high degree of fluency and their comprehension exactly to that of a native speakers. It can be concluded that when they explain their picture, they can speak with the clear pronunciation, good grammar, and they can explain the picture fluently because they have many vocabularies so that their explanations are clear.
