Writing is one skill of language that must be mastered. Writing can help us to express anything in a paper, and it can help us remain our idea after we read information. The most important, we can share information to other people. The purposed of this study to know the kinds of error analysis of using gerund in writing descriptive text and to find the cause of errors made by the students writing test.
The researcher method used in this research is a qualitative approach. This research was conducted in fourteenth semester at Universitas Islam Negeri Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. The subject of this research was a fourteenth semester English Education Department at Universitas Islam Negeri Aji Muhhammad Idris Samarinda. The researcher tried to describe what kinds of error are made by the fourteenth semester of English Education department Universitas Islam Negeri Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. To collect data, the researcher use documentation technique , the documentation is a technique to collect data from of notes, transcripts, books, newspaper and etc. in this research, the data will use student’s writing text.
Based on the result of the research, the researcher concludes that the writing text results and the student’s skill and knowledge were satisfactory. In the student’s text, there were a few instances of poor sentence construction. Based on the data, the researcher found that the most common short of error in this study was omission error. It happened three times (5,9%). Apart from those types of mistakes, no other errors were discovered.
